Everything I do starts with your story.

From getting clear, to getting out into the world, to staying in front of the right people.

A strong business with an unclear story stays hard to find. I build brand strategy for nonprofits and purpose-driven businesses from the inside out. First, I help you say who you are and who you serve. Then I build it into your website and everything you hand out, and take it to the people who need to hear it, from reporters to your future clients.

You have one person to talk to. I guide every part of the work, and my team of designers and developers builds behind me.

It starts with the Key Insights Brief.

Before I build anything, we begin with your Brief. In about a week, you know what’s holding you back and what to do first, and that decides which parts of this work you need.

Our Method

Three parts, in the order they work. Not every business needs all three, and your Key Insights Brief shows which ones are right for you.

Clarify

Your Message and Story

I interview you and your team, then write what you do in words the people you want to reach understand.

  • What you do, who you serve and why it matters, in plain words.

  • Your story, told so someone outside your business can repeat it.

  • One message that speaks to both the people you serve and the people who fund you.

Your Look

Your logo, colors and fonts, updated so they match the organization you’ve become.

  • Logo and visual identity, kept where the bones are strong and rebuilt where they aren’t.

  • Colors and fonts that carry the right feeling.

  • Your logo first, approved before anything else is built.

Your Website

Written by me, designed and built by my team, so the words and the design fit together.

  • Website copy and structure.

  • Clear paths for each kind of visitor, like one for people who need help and one for people who want to give it.

  • Design and build by my web developer, with a live walkthrough before launch.

The Pieces You Need to Stand Out

  • Business cards and letterhead.

  • Brochures and flyers.

  • Pop-up banners and signage.

  • Billboards.

  • Shirts and promo items.

  • Other printed materials you need.

Sometimes Clarify means sharpening your words. Sometimes it means starting over from the logo up. Your Key Insights Brief tells us which.

Launch

get it out into the world

Your Three-Month Communication Plan

Every project includes a communication plan, so you know how to launch your story and how to carry it out.

  • What to share on social media.

  • What goes in your newsletter.

  • What your campaigns should look like.

  • The order to do it in, so your time and budget go where they count first.

Spotlight

get your story in front of the right people

Media Relations

I take your story to the people who can spread it.

  • Your story pitched to reporters.

  • News releases, written for you.

  • Interviews set up, with follow-up after.

Content that keeps people paying attention.

Written in focused working sessions and sent over for your approval.

  • Blog posts.

  • Newsletters.

  • Social media posts.

Campaigns

  • Giving Tuesday and year-end giving.

  • Launches and other moments when you need more people watching.

We keep going for three months, six months or longer, depending on what you need.

How We Work Together

I work in an intensive format. You and I each set aside focused time, so the work moves quickly and efficiently, and I can take your feedback right away and put it straight into the work.

I prepare before we sit down. You share what you already have, and I interview you and your team. I do the thinking and the writing on my end, so when we meet, you’re reacting to real work and not starting from nothing.

We start with your foundation. If your look is changing, we start with the visuals: your logo, colors and fonts. You approve them before anything else is built, because everything that follows rests on them.

We focus, then we launch. When we go through the work together, it’s close to done, and your feedback goes straight in. Two or three people make the final call, so the project keeps moving, and then it goes live.

After launch, I keep your story moving.

If you want me to keep going, I stay on after your launch for three months, six months or as long as it’s useful. We work in focused sessions: I plan what comes next, write your blog posts, newsletters and social media posts, and send everything over for your approval before it goes out.

Media outreach is part of that when your story calls for it. I keep pitching reporters, write your news releases, set up interviews and follow up after. Some clients need media as part of their plan. Others mainly need steady content, like a blog, a monthly newsletter and social media posts. We decide together which one you need.

Is this the right fit?

This is for the leader of a purpose-driven business or nonprofit whose work is strong and whose story hasn’t kept pace. You’ve grown, or something big is coming, and you’d rather have one person carry it from the brand building to the communication strategy than manage three firms. You make the final call, with two or three people helping you decide.

If you only want someone to post on social media for you, or every decision needs a large committee before anything can move, I’m probably not the right fit.

Questions about working together

Let’s find out where to start.

Tell me what’s going on and what’s coming next. I’ll tell you what I see and what I’d do first. If it’s a fit, we’ll begin with your Key Insights Brief.
